Assigning a Process to a Participant

Create a new process for a participant or assign an existing one to them.

Prerequisites

A process is not yet assigned to the participant.

Context

Flow nodes cannot be displayed directly in a participant's pool. A process already needs to be assigned to a participant before its process can be modeled.

A new process can be created for a participant or an existing process is assigned to it. It is possible that the same process is assigned to various participants.

Creating a New Process for a Participant

How to proceed
  1. Select the Horizontal Process or Vertical Process element from the Create Diagram Content gallery.
  2. Drag the element and drop it on a participant in your BPMN diagram.

A new process is created in the Model Structure below the collaboration and assigned to the participant. The name of the process is automatically selected to be edited.

  3. Enter the name of the process and confirm with [Enter].

Assigning an Existing Process which is Defined in the Same Diagram

How to proceed
  1. Drag the process within the diagram and drop it on the participant.

If the process was not assigned to another participant, it is assigned to the selected participant and shown as a defining view there.

If it was previously assigned to another participant, this assignment remains. The process is assigned to the selected participant and shown as a referencing view there.

Assigning an Existing Process which is Defined in Another Diagram

How to proceed
  1. Drag the process from the Model Content or another window and drop it on the participant.

The process is assigned to the selected participant and shown as a referencing view there.
